5. Other non-alcohol related cooking methods
The instructor for this class is a retired chemical engineer whom I met through the store. He is into preparedness, gardening -- and has done an extensive study on the use of alcohol stoves as a primary cooking method, as well as using different unique and innovative methods for preparing foods off grid.
While alcohol stoves will be the mainstay of this course, other topics related topics will be touched upon and your questions will all be answered.

ALCOHOL STOVE GENERAL PRINCIPLES:
- POT STANDS SHOULD BE MADE OF METAL AND HAVE OPENINGS FOR DRAWING IN COMBUSTION AIR.
- STAND SHOULD BE CAPABLE OF HOLDING POT STABLE WITHOUT RISK OF TIPPING FROM CASUAL HIT
- OPTIMUM DISTANCE FROM TOP OF STOVE TO BOTTOM OF POT IS 1”. CLOSER THAN 1’ MAY EXTINGUISH FLAME. HIGHER THAN 1” WILL WASTE FUEL AND MAY CAUSE SOOTING OF POT
- A LEAK OR SPILL FROM A BURNING STOVE WILL SPREAD FIRE QUICKLY USE METAL CATCH PAN TO CONTAIN ANY SPILL.
- KEEP CENTER OF GRAVITY OF STOVE/STAND/POT AS LOW AS POSSIBLE
- POT SHOULD BE WIDE ENOUGH SO THAT FLAME DOES NOT LICK THE SIDES. THIS WILL WASTE FUEL.
