Learning how to take critters you hunt, trap, or raise from the field to the table is an important skill -- but it's one of those skills that you're either raised with or you likely don't have.  It's daunting to take a book or watch a video and then execute the skill.  I know, because I've done it.  (I was successful, however, I much rather would have attended a class.)

In this class, held at MyShire Farm, we will take a 4-legged critter from the field to the freezer, learning the following skills:

  • Humane farm animal slaughter
  • Dressing the animal safely
  • Skillfull butchering/packaging
  • Miscellaneous information about goats and dressing animals

Due to the logistics of getting a fresh deer, the class will utilize a goat, which is quite similar in size and anatomy.  It's the next best thing.  Goat's meat is considered a delicacy in many parts of the world, heralded as a fine meal.  It sounds a bit odd to most Americans because we were not raised with it.  This class is not for the faint of heart, but if you have always wanted to continue the traditions of our forefathers and increase your homesteading and survival acumen, you should consider this class.

Each student will get an equal portion of the final, packaged meat to take home at the end of the class.  Class length will be about 3 hours.  It is limited to 10 students.
